綜觀現今各大國際車廠，為了有效降低車型開發的成本，以及滿足市場上消費者供不應求的需求，不少車廠也紛紛開始邁向「模組化底盤平台」的設計之路，除了近年最有名的德國兩大車廠BMW與M-BENZ各自有著UKL與MFA的模組化底盤平台系統外，行之有年的德國國民品牌VW集團，更是將這項精神發揮的淋漓盡致。
